WaveLab

How can I quickly create individual samples out of a single waveform/track containing several sounds?

WaveLab includes a function called Auto-Split, which is an ideal tool to cut sample-CD-tracks containing several sounds each. You can apply it by either clicking [Edit] and [Auto Split] or by pressing [S].

The pop-up dialogue offers different splitting options: by "intervals", "beats" or "silence". For cutting sample-sounds, select "between silence". After pressing [Next] you have to set the values for minimum region duration, for the minimum silence length between regions and for the threshold, that defines your "silence".

The next step is to decide what will be done with the clips. Options include: saving the resulting parts as new files, placing them into an audio montage, or creating markers within the original file to be able to manually separate them afterwards.

In case of the latter, loop-markers are the best choice especially when dealing with a track containing loops since they can then be previewed and the marker-positions, if needed, can be corrected before exporting the part.
