Why am I asked to place the original CD in the CD-Rom drive when updating to a new version of a VST instrument?

The copy-protection for VST Instruments uses a special embedded ring as part of the install CD. This prevents the unauthorized copying of the CD. Unfortunately, some PC's with certain DVD-Rom drives are unable to properly read the CD-Roms properly during the installation. As a result, you may experience an error message indicating that the product "must be installed from the original CD," even though you ARE installing from the original CD. To address this problem, do the following:

  • Disable all background applications
  • Make sure the data side of the install CD is clean
  • Update your ASAPI drivers
  • If your computer has more than one CD-Rom drive, try installing from the other drive

If you have an external USB or Firewire CD-Rom drive/burner, install from the external drive.
