As an answer to the demands for specialist solutions as well as flexibility in both functionality and cost management throughout the Audio Post, Studio Production, and Live recording industries, Steinberg has now reconceived and refocused the feature set of Nuendo. Certain features present in previous versions of Nuendo which overlapped the core feature set of Cubase have been removed. These are features typically used in the process of musical composition--that is, the Score Editor with its full layout functionality, the Drum Editor, as well as additional Steinberg VST Instruments--none of which are essential tools in the main target industries for Nuendo. The price of the core Nuendo 4 application has therefore been lowered accordingly in comparison to earlier versions. The new Nuendo Expansion Kit (NEK), available as an optional add-on for Nuendo 4, makes all of the Cubase Music Production Tools available "on demand" for those Nuendo 4 customers who may require them. This innovative, flexible approach provides complete integration of these Cubase Music Composition features whenever required in a Nuendo workflow, as well as providing complete project compatibility with Cubase 4 in mixed Cubase/Nuendo environments. And because the NEK is a separate license on the Steinberg Key, the NEK functionality is fully portable to other Steinberg Keys, making all of these features instantly available on any other computer on which Nuendo 4 and NEK are installed.
