When you getting into larger projects it's not a good idea to record those to the system drive. You can run into unstable behavior and lock ups that could cause corrupt files. In your particular setup use one of the external drives to record to and the other for backup. Or get a second internal drive. This way if your system crashes you don't lose any projects or have to start from an earlier version.
