I've read through the forums but to no avail and i posted something earlier but i think i posted it without enough info and didnt make it clear what i needed.
I have cubase le 4, an Alesis usb 2.0 multimix 16, and windows vista.
QUESTIONS: After i record, and i press play i hear nothing. Ive tried hooking my headphones directly to my laptop and also through my alesis mixer. I have already changed my VST audio device driver the alesis like i was told but i dont even know which plug to put my headphones into. Idealy i want to be able to hear the sound directly from my laptop so i can take it home from my studio and do my editing there. PLEASE HELP

If you are using the Multimix you need to listen to playback through the Multimix. You want to have your headphones plugged into the Multimix. Also, when playing back make sure the monitor button is turned off (next to record arm button). You should at least be getting meters on playback?

you say the monitor button should be turned off next to the record arm button. What is the record arm button? if you are talking about each tracks individual monitor button then yes they are turned off. but if there is an overal monitor button then i dont know about it (or is it on my mutli mix?)... also where should my headphones be plugged into the multimix? the main out? the headphone jack? etc.
i know im a complete newbie to all this, trust me

Yes, you plug your headphones into the headphones jack on the Alesis.
When you record do you see the waveform recording? When you playback is the cursor moving across the recorded waveform? If you record silence or nothing it will draw a box with nothing inside.

yea its definitely recording wave form. I can make adjustments to the eq and export the song and listen to it fine, but i cant hear anything inside the program is the problem. which makes editing a pain as i have to make minor adjustments, export, listen, and then go back to the program and sort of blindly make adjustments
