Problem using Zoom H4 as an audio interface
      #9152 - 10/07/08 06:00 PM

When using my Zoom H4 as an audio interface to record direct to an audio track in Cubase LE, the recording starts ok, and then randomly stops, freezes for an instant and then continues in play mode. This can happen at anytime between 3 and 60 seconds. It seems totally random.

I'm running Windows XP and using the Zoom ASIO driver, and I've reinstalled Cubase LE, but to no avail. Any light you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Can you pull up devices, VST performance. Do either or these meters peak when the recording stops?

Are you on XP home, pro, or media center? What is the processor in your system?

In Cubase, under VST Audio System, what is your input latency? Thank you.

Hi Chris, thanks for the rapid response.

Yes, the VST Performance indicators do seem to peak momentarily when the recording stops.

The system is Windows XP Home Edition with an Intel Pentium 4 processor.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to access the VST Audio Information to check the latency.

On the Zoom ASIO control panel the latency is 486 samples (16.53ms). Sampling Frequency 4100Hz.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Chris W

Hello,

Is it the ASIO meter that peaks or the hard disk?

How many audio tracks are in the project? How many plugins?

Hello Chris.

There were no other tracks and no plugins involved as I was testing out the interface as simply as possible to see how it worked before beginning a project. Previously I'd recorded files to the H4 and imported them onto Cubase, which worked fine for what I was after at the time.

Interestingly I downloaded the H Series ASIO driver from Zoom and replaced my old ASIO driver. It is meant for Cubase LE4, but it seems to work! There is a warning that it may make Cubase LE unstable (whatever that means) but so far, after a very brief trial, it seems to do the trick.

Maybe I've solved the problem, but thanks for your help Chris. I'll post again if it all goes tits up! It usually does!

Chris

Glad to hear the latest ASIO driver from Zoom is helping.
