For the Generic Remote, select the device, hit learn, move a control and assign a parameter.

Then you're doing something wrong. Don't edit an existing line, add new ones. I delete all of the lines that show by default before I start entering my own.

Hello,
Personally I like using the Quick Controls. I think they are much easier to setup and modify.
1. Setup your knobs to control QC. Go to Devices, Device Setup, Quick Controls. Here you can setup using Midi Learn each of the knobs you want to use. Set the input and output port to your keyboard.
Click Learn and turn the knob you want to use for each parameter.
2. In the project (or in your template), setup the parameters that you want each QC to control. Personally I just wait until I have something I need to control (Send 1 Level), and then add it to the track.
The operation manual discusses QC starting on page 312. I hope this helps.
