I am trying to resolve an issue of audio...am I thinking correctly toward a solution?
I have Cubase Studio 4, Halion 3, G046 Firewire, USB 2.0 capability, Korg 61P Controller (no sound, and Mackie spkrs. Also 2 ghz processor and 2 ghz ram. Both the Halion 3 and Korg controller are new.
All audio outputs are thru the G046. The Halion 3 is loaded into CS4 VSTplugin folder. The Korg controller is connected via USB. According to Korg, I must choose USB or the Midi Out...cannot have both plugged in. I chose USB as I did not think to order the AC adapter. Also, my thinking is the Korg controller is merely choosing a sample...it is up to CS4/Halion 3 to transmit that data (and sound it) thru the G046/audio out. When I depress a key on the Korg, I see an identical key depression on the Hal3 screen keyboard. This tells me that the Korg is communicating with the computer and CS4. If I have Hal3 on the screen and I depress the "play" button, the chosen sample plays thru the spkrs. If I depress a key on the Korg controller, there is no audio of the sample. If I look at the top left corner of the Hal3 screen, I see Program...next to it shows "no sample". Question: am I suppose to do an additional loading into CS4? In my thinking, the Korg controller merely "chooses" a sample...CS4/Halion 3 picks up that choice and plays it thru the G046/audio out...to the Mackie spkrs. For some reason that I cannot figure, this is not occurring. I have drawn a box diagram of my system to aid in my thinking and, so far, I cannot determine the problem. If you have insight, I will certainly appreciate you sharing it with me.
Thank you.

Hello,
Inside Cubase Studio 4 go to File, New Project, select the empty option and click ok.
Then go to Devices, VST instruments, load up HALionOne and click yes to creating an assigned MIDI track for HALionOne. Next on the MIDI track on the far left of the screen click on ALL MIDI INPUTS and switch to your MIDI IN for your Korg controller and set the MIDI OUT to HALionOne.
Please let me know if this helps.
Thank You.

Hello,
Also inside Cubase Studio 4 go to Devices, Device Setup, VST Audio System, and make sure you have the latest driver selected for your audio interface and click OK.

Josh:
Thank you for the courtesy of a quick reply.
Although the problem still exists, please permit me to confirm each of your recommendations. I followed each of your emails...without success.
When I press C1 on the keyboard, it still shows up on the Halion 3 screen and the "event led" lights at the top of the screen. But no sound...again, the only way I can play a sample is by pressing the "play" button within Halion 3.
Does the fact that when I click on the arrow next to program there is simply a list of 128 programs...and "no sample" is shown on the box to the right of the slot...have anything to do with my problem?
I have confirmed that the Korg is being recognized by the computer...set preferences, loaded, and transmitted back to the Korg with success.
I am missing something somewhere.
Thank you for helping me.

Can you post a screen shot of how you have things set up in the Inspector for the MIDI track?
Some things to check: Make sure MIDI Thru is checked in Prefs. Make sure the monitor button on the MIDI track is enabled. Make sure a patch is selected in the plugin.
Sometimes Cubase breaks MIDI tracks so trying it in a new project is also an option.
You have the plug selected as the output of the MIDI track, right?

Instead of All MIDI Inputs, you should select the specific input for your device.
Did you say you're using the USB connection for the MIDI controller or the MIDI connections? If MIDI, which MIDI interface? Post a screenshot of Device Setup-MIDI Port Configuration.

Oh, and if USB, you are turning on the keyboard before opening Cubase, right?

1. I did initiate the Korg prior to launching CS4. 2. Attached are screenshots.
