double notes
      #7682 - 07/16/08 06:00 PM

Hi, I've searched for a thread pertaining to this but have not found one. When I play a track into cubase controlling Halion or Miraslov each note lays down twice. What I mean is if you go to the matrix and move the top note there is one under it. It would seem to me that this ties up my resources and could be the cause of some of the recording issues I'm having. I've looked for a way to solve it and found "delete double" I can not make this work either by selecting all and delete double or selecting the track....please advise. Thank you, Cyndie

Hi Cyndie - I've had this situation before, and will do my best to help you solve this. There are two parts to your problem - - 1. The recording of the double notes. 2. Using "delete doubles" to eliminate.

Re: #1 - the recording of these double notes is the sole cause of your problem, and it's probably not a problem with Cubase. It can be caused by settings on your controller keyboard - perhaps it is in "split" or "layer" mode. If so, the controler is sending out two identical notes, on two seperate MIDI channels. Check this carefully because I found out finally that ..

Re: #2: The "Delete Doubles" function in Cubase does not see two notes that are recorded in two different MIDI channels, although otherwise identical, as "doubles" - - and therefore, won't delete them. However, as you probably know, the MIDI track will transmit those two notes on the one channel on which the track is set to transmit.

A handy thing to know - but the real thing is for you to determine why, for each note you play, your controler sends out two notes, on two seperate channels. There are plenty of more technically astute participants here who can help you with that if needed. Good luck.

Thank you rad.....it does this double note in Sibelius too...I thought maybe that it was something on the computer but your explanation makes more sense to me since it's doing it in both applications. Midi channel differences explain why the double delete doesn't work....you've been a huge help. I'm still new at C4 though I've had it awhile. It would have taken me along time to figure this out. Thank you

If I actually use the template roland put on the keyboard for sequencing (and not my gig settings) it takes this problem completely away.....Yay...I can't thank you enough. It would have taken me months to figure this out on my own.

Glad to help. At some point, you'll want to know the exact nature of why your gig patch sends out two notes on seperate channels.

No sleight to anyone else here, but another great bunch of Cubase dudes regularly visit Motifator.com - and specifically the "Steinberg" section.

Good luck!
