Move multiple or all tracks to front or back
      #6941 - 05/18/08 12:19 PM

Hi, I am using Cubase LE to record drum tracks and to speed up the editing process I want to be able to move all tracks from each take to front or back or forward or backward so I can listen to just one take at a time and decide what parts of it to use. However, I haven't been able to find out how to do this despite searching the web and forums. In ProTools, the equivalent feature is called "playlists" from what I have heard. In Cubase, there doesnt' seem to be any way other than moving each individual track from each individual take forward or backward one at a time--an extremely time-consuming process. Note: I use Cubase LE 1.7 which came with my Tascam FW1884 interface.

Hello,

The way I do this is to first group the events of the same takes. I select all the drums from one take and hit ctrl G (apple G on mac) and group the events. Then under Edit, Move To, Back. I have my Move To commands as quick keys so I can move something forward or backward easily.

To setup the key command, go to File, Key Commands, and type in Move To, then you can set the command to an open set of keys. On my mac I use ctrl F for Move to Front. On my PC, I use Alt-F. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response Chris. That is very helpful. Do you know if there is a way to keep each set of tracks grouped together until you decide to ungroup them, so you have a group of 8 tracks for take 4, a group of 8 tracks for take 5, etc.?

Hello,

Group events will stay grouped until you hit ctrl-U (apple-U).

Here's how I did it this weekend. When a take was done recording and I hit stop, all the events that just recorded are automatically selected. So I hit ctrl-G there. But sometimes, I'm a bit absent minded and I forgot. In which case I usually just move the start point of take 5 over, so I can ensnare all the tracks of take 4 and then group them. Be careful there no to leave the tracks of take 5 selected, so you don't end up with all of them highlighted together.

Another quick way is my using the Move to Back command. This way I can quickly see another take and group it. I hope this helps.
