1. For getting a drum beat together quickly a) create a Midi part, and open the drum editor. b) Set the independant track loop over two bars. c) write the drum pattern and MINIMISE the editor. d) Other tracks may be recorded and the Independant track loop stays active, keeping the beat.
2. Creating less repetitive loops. a) Using the above method, create a basic loop of two bars for the basic kit (e.g. hats snare and kick). b) Minmimise that and open another track and part, but create a loop of 3 bars. Place some off beat drum hits toward the end of the loop. Mimimise the editor. c) Add more tracks with longer loops, with a few sparse hits the result is a that the basic beat is filled at 3 bar intervals with odd beats added at 4 or 5 bars, making the pattern less notciably looped, although for 3 and 4 bar loops the pattern repeats after 12 bars...

1. On a UK keybaord the right alt key is marked ALT-GR. This actually sends control-alt to the SX, so can be used as a single key for more keycommands without manually having to press three keys at once.
2. For those that like automation lanes for Midi CC's, these can be recorded directlt into the automation lane4s with the preferecne set in: Preferences->Midi->Controller input to Automation tracks.
3. Existing controller information in parts can be extracted to automation lanes using the Midi menu->Functons>Extract Midi automation.
4. The input transformer can be used to modify incvming midi data before it is recorded. This can be used to change modulation to aftertouch for emulating AT on keybaords that don't support it. (and a whole lot more).
5. Inspector program changes can now be frozen into parts using the Midi menu->freeze track parmaters. The program/bank changes are written to the part at the left locator, and the value in the inspector is set to off. This way the inspector may be used to set program changes, and these can be changed on the same track at different points in the song, which is much easier than programming in the key or list editor.

If you work with lots of tempo and time signiature changes, and want to insert a section of tempo the global insert function works OK (especially with the new buttons in the tempo track) but a quick and easy way is to place the new tempo and sig at the end of the project, and then record the section you want. use the play order track to create a play order that plays up to the point where you want to insert, and then plays the new section, then continues playing from the break point in the original material. Flattening the play order will rearrnage the song as you wanted it, and has the advantage that you can work out the actual length of the new section and record the music before inserting it into the old material.
