Why sometimes can a preset be loaded on a particular VST instrument and at other times not?

Not sure I understand what you mean. Can you give a little more information on the specific instance.

It's an intermittent problem.

Hello,
What version of CS4 are you on? What operating system? Does the problem still occur? Is anything different about the system when you don't see presets? Thank you.

Hi Chris,
It appears that sometimes that any particular VST instrument can be "unresponsive", that is it will not load a preset unless I re-open the project.
Thanks again

Hmmm, where is your VST Performance meter at when this happens? How many VSTi's are loaded? What VSTi's specifically does this happen in? Thank you.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your replies but I am resigned to using the Create Instrument Track feature at this time, since it isn't too much work to save a preset and then scan for it in the media bay and most vst's are mono-timbral anyway, so there isn't really a problem in most cases, however, as much I'd like it to be fixed, I'd like to know if the "refresh" feature of the media bay is supposed to fix this problem and if it is supposed to happen automatically when a preset is saved.
Thanks again

Hello,
I would guess that the fix will make the presets function properly, as they do in C4, and will most likely not require you to refresh the Media Bay to view presets.
FYI for other readers, this refer to the post here: http://www.steinbergusers.com/forums/sho...h=true#Post5253
