I have recently max'd out my exporting. I'm getting a message saying that I need to install the MP3 Updater. Here's my problem, I can't find it anywhere. I am finding out that Cubase isn't offering this update any longer so, what do I do now when I need to convert my projects or where can I find the MP3 Updater?

Hello,
I'm sorry but there is no longer an LE Mp3 update. Please export as a .wav file.
You can then use a free program like itunes to convert the file to mp3. Thank you.

I have followed all these instructions for exporting a project to a .wav file and it seems to work fine except for one thing: Once it has been converted it seems to have lost an ENORMOUS amount of sound quality- The volume is much softer and there is a nasty hiss if I bring it up. I am playing it through winamp. All other files sound fine thru winamp. What's up!?!?

Hello,
What version of Cubase do you have installed?
Are you using any compressors or limiters to master the output? With the .wav file, are you exporting to 44.1/16 bit? What settings did you have the project at? Thank you.

I am using Cubase LE 1.10 OEM Presonus- It is the edition bundled with the Presonus Firepod (which I am using) I am not aware of any Compressor or Limiter. I am exporting to 44.1/16 bit (I've tried some other settings but that didn't help) Here is how I have it all set up: When I playback thru Cubase, it sends the signal to the Firepod, which is plugged into a channel of my stereo system via the 2 outs on the back of the firepod. I have the MAIN volume control on the Firepod up about 75%. I am getting a very clear, loud signal this way. The .wav files are being played by winamp. signal is sent from the audio out on the computer into the same stereo system but on a different channel. So I can A-B them very easily and hear the difference. The levels on my projects have plenty of signal- peaking just below 0db. When I convert them to .wav files however, not only do they lose a lot of volume and gain a lot of hiss, they also seem to be lacking in clarity- they sound dulled. I can open them in NERO audio editor and add volume but it just brings up the hiss and still lacks the clarity of the original. Hope this helps! Thanks, Jared

Hello Jared,
Using the two different sound cards could be a reason for some of the difference. What version of Windows XP (home, pro, media center)? Thank you.

I use XP Pro V. 2002 service pack 2, AMD Athlon 908 MHZ, 512 MB RAM. (the cubase specs say to use service pack 1. could that mean anything?)(I also have the CPU set to LOW in the firepod driver because it wasn't working right on MEDIUM.)Is there another way to set it up that would be better? Jared

Hello Jared,
First to get an accurate look at the difference between LE and Winamp, I would suggest using the Presonus as the output for Winamp. This way you will be using the same sound card and same cables. Thank you.

Can you explain how to do that?!? Also what about the opposite: Is there another way to get Cubase LE to playback NOT thru the Firepod, like thru the sound card of my computer?

Hello,
I don't know how to route the Winamp to the Presonus, but I would imagine that Presonus does (you probably just need to change your computer sound card settings).
To see Cubase out the generic sound card, I would suggest using the asio driver from www.asio4all.com. Thank you.
