Further from the following, I am wondering regarding the use of MIDI controllers, and are they transparent with respect to audio and MIDI channel volumes:

ie, can an external controller be used to adjust a MIDI Fader, in the same way as an Instrument Channel Fader?

Yes a control surface can adjust midi faders.

Thank you Jeff, your reply is appreciated.
My hope was that at least with the inbuilt soundset (HalionOne), that it wouldn't matter were I to use a MIDI fader or a Channel Fader and that each would adjust the volume of a given "track" in more-or-less the same way.
I understand there is a difference but sometimes the former method has little or no effect and I don't know the reason why.

The reason is, is that some plugs don't respond volume CC or it's controlled by a different CC.
