Recording from a remote laptop
|
|
I tried running cubase from another room using my laptop as a wireless remote. I wanted to record vocals away from my desk top for less noise. I could hear the midi tracks but, when I tried to record an audio track it didn't record. Is it possible to record audio tracks from a remote computer?

How far is the other room? You might want to try use a wireless keyboard connected to the recording computer. This will give you full control over the transport and many other functions. "*" will enable record on the transport and "r" will enable record on a selected audio track.
I have never tried using a second computer remote into another. I don't see why that would not work considering your laptop should have control over the desktop.

Also, under preferences you can select "enable record on selected track." This will make sure the audio track goes into record when you start rolling. Activating the pre-count and click will give you time to prep. I have controlled my studio from a laptop via remote desktop, so this is definitely possible. You will want to run a pair of headphones to the room you are recording in as a way to monitor.
Check out Microsoft's website about how to set up remote desktop and you will be ready to record!
Good luck and please let us know if have any additional questions.
