Virtual Guitarist
      #3683 - 07/25/07 02:20 PM

I wasn't able to find anything on this forum about Virtual Guitarist. Are there any users out there that could give some feedback on it? I've been looking at it online for about a week now and have had a hard time finding constructive reviews. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

What type of things would you like to know about the product?

I actually purchased it and it just arrived today. I love it, so far! I've only been able to use it on it's own though. I only have LE right now (I have a Lexicon Lambda) since I'm just starting out. However, I went to go into a recording project and can't seem to figure out how to get the VG2 to record into my project. As far as I can tell, I'm following the instructions in the booklet. Any thoughts? I can pull up the VG2 in the project, it just won't record in there.

you need to have a midi track with the ouput set to VG2. Then you should be able to trigger by single note or by hitting the full chord on your keyboard.

I just purchased VG2 and am trying to use it with my Logic setup. However, after installing, I noticed that VG2 was only tested as an AU plugin for Logic 7.1.1; I have Logic 7.0.1. Even still, I attempted to use it as a standalone through ReWire. When I use the app as a standalone, I am able to fully use it. When I open it as a slave program to Logic, I am only able to play the sound samples. When I press keys on the MIDI controller, no MIDI registers on the VG2. It does, however, register on Logic, but no sound is played. Will this program work, either as an AU or as a standalone through ReWire? If so, how can I set it up so that I am able to get sound and record? Please reply to luannawilliams@gmail.com.

Just now, I'm looking for insight on the multi-platform capabilities of these plug-ins. As audio editing applications grow more robust, I can see the obvious need for Steinberg to have elected to cease support for DX plugs.

I'm fine with this provided; A.) The purchaser of feature-rich Steinberg products like "Virtual Guitarist.2" can easily install (or export) them as DX's, and, B.) Provide a detailed break-down directory of the plugs that are, and are not supported, with a clear line of support for future downloads. Those that are readily convertable ought to be available -- in either format --for subscribed users who don't happen to have their install disks with them. The dongle itself could provide a key to said database.

Meanwhile, I might freely diss the Brits for introducing this troublesome recent slang: (a) 'PITA' ..?

"TBH, the Steinberg Virtual Guitar plugins are pretty buggy in my experience, a lot of people have had difficulties installing them (not insurmountable ones, but still it's a major PITA if it happens and nobody from Steinberg seems to want to help).. would suggest you check out MusicLab's RealGuitar instead."
