Layla Card Question
      #6114 - 03/19/08 09:21 AM

Hello,

I've been out of the loop with my recording gear for well over a year now, and I'm getting a new machine dedicated to audio recording.

The first thing I noticed is that most (if not all) new PCs don't have SCSI at all. If I remember correctly, my Layla card uses SCSI to communicate with the PC. You'd think that would be easy to figure out, but my basement is all disorganized, so I'm not finding all the cables, etc.

In looking at the back of the rack-mounted Layla (16 channel) the output is one of those jacks you'd use to plug in a monitor (or looks like one). I don't remember if it has SCSI on the other end or what, and I can't find the cable.

The Dell salesman told me that there some USB mixer device you use in a situation like this? Does anyone know what he's talking about? How do I transition to the new machines?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I am not really sure what kind of connection your Layla uses. A lot of older interfaces use a specific serial cable to connect the hardware interface to a pci card in the computer. I have not heard of any interfaces using SCSI - but yes SCSI is not really used anymore at all.
