I'm trying to bring some ancient Tascam cassette tracks into SE3 via a Roland VM-3100Pro digital mixer with an RPC-1 interface. I can see the interface in VST Connections and the RPC-1 ASIO driver is selected, a call to Roland tech support verified the mixer and interface are sending the data to Cubase, but I cannot get the individual tracks to record. I actually cracked the manual, read forum listings, tried any configuration I could think of with no results. Please tell me what I need to do. Thanks.

Are you trying to record the stereo output of your multitrack cassette recorder or are you able to send individual cables per track from the recorder onto the inputs of the audio interface or sound card you are have connected to your computer?

I am running the 8 tape tracks into 8 channels of the mixer. The RPC-1 interface can send 8 ins into Cubase. I can't get Cubase to record the 8 discreet channels coming from the interface.

What version of Cubase are you using?

In Cubase SE3, you need to go to VST Connections and create 4 Stereo busses. In Cubase SE 3, you are limited to 4 total buses. If you create 4 stereo buses, you will be able to access 8 total inputs. When you create a Mono audio track in Cubase SE3, the inputs you will have available to select will be (Left 1, Right 2, Left 3, Right 4, Left 5, Right 6, Left 7 and Right 8 if you have 4 stereo busses created in VST Connections.

I set up the four stereo input busses you suggested. I can see activity in the Transport Window's Audio Activity Input, but nothing in the Audio Actitiviy Output and nothing in the individual recording tracks that are armed and set to monitor the incoming signal. It's like there's a missing step. Any ideas? Thanks.

Once you create 8 mono audio tracks, follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the input routing of each track is set to the appropriate input bus (Left 1, Right 2, Left 3, etc.)
2. Make sure that the record enable button is selected on each audio track. - at this point you should see the meters moving on the actual audio tracks.
3. Once you see the audio meters moving on the audio tracks, you can select the Record button on the transport bar and audio will be recorded into Cubase.
Hope this helps!

Brad,
Thanks for all your help. I had "Direct Monitoring" checked in the VST Device Setup and after unchecking that, it worked just like you said it would. Thanks again!
