I just did a rough mix on a song Im doing this sat. I have cubase SX3 and I just did the "export audio mixdown" option, burnt it to a cd and for the most part it sounds ok.I have 2 questions, Does the "Exprt Audio Mixdown" option perform some sort of mix on its own?(It does play at a lower level during the process but afterwards the cd sounds ok) If it sounds ok in my studio that has(maudiofasttrackpro, samson resolv 40a speakers)should I be ok for the proffessional big speaker system for the most part? sorry this thing was so long. thanks for the help.

You can get good mixes on lower budget monitors but it really depends on you as an engineer and getting used to the monitors. Having access to high end monitors is helpful because sometimes you can hear issues that cheaper monitors might mask or smudge. I have heard plenty of great mixes on budget monitors. The export mixdown does not alter your signal at all.
Once burned to a cd, you might notice the level is lower than other commercial cds but this is from lack of mastering or "pre-mastering". A quick fix for this is to purchase a brick-wall limiter. This will allow you to increase your signal without clipping. If you are on PC, a good cheaper brickwall limiter is Voxengo Elephant: Voxengo.com. If you upgrade to Cubase 4 it comes with upgraded/new effects as well as some decent maximizing/limiting plugins.
