Skipping , jmping dring play bck and Midi probs
      #4420 - 10/23/07 11:51 AM

Hello I have 2 problems with Cubase SX. 1. I bought a new hard drive (went from 40 gigs to 80gigs) and imaged it with the same xpsp2. I finally got eveything back and did the tweaks but now my projects are skipping and jumping. I never had this problem before. 2. My midi seems not to be working anymore. I used to be able to control & dump my tracks to cubase from my korg trinity. Its not working anymore. I disabled the on board sound card and I use my maudio fast track pro I Can hear everything but when I need to add drums parts I cant get the time right because the midi does not work. I have a Dell GX 240 Win XP SP2 1 Gig of Mem 1.7 Ghz Processor (I know its not much but it was working for what I needed. thanks for your Help

I was looking in the other forums and it looks like the correct term would be "Audio Gaps" that sounds more appopriate to whats happening with me.

1. Make sure that you have the correct M-Audio driver selected in Cubase and if you still are having audio dropouts during recording or playback, open your M-Audio software and raise the audio buffer setting. This should effect whether or not you hear pops/skips.

2. When you select a MIDI track, are you able to select the MIDI input that is connected to your keyboard in the Input routing option in the Inspector column in the project window?

Ok I'll try that tonight . It shouldnt matter that I moved just my files to an external drive? It seems very active when Im playing the tracks back and thats why I thought I was getting the audio gaps but hopefully this works thanks.

Hi Banks,

Are you referring to moving the project files to an external drive? If so, then this will not affect the midi timing and the buffer size.

I hope this helps,

It was more like audio drop outs. as though the pc was havig trouble reading the data almost, and then I noticed my external was running like crazy and the cache bar on the left of the transport bar was shooting all the way up and back down during tyhe playback attempt. After I moved everything back to the pc harddrive. Everything is ok now. the only other thing I noticed was my external drive is a fat32 format, not sure if there was some conflict with the pc being NTFS? But I start back recording this weekend. Pray for me.

Hi Banks,

The Fat32 and NTFS combination, is probably not the problem. Are you running the external drive usb or firewire? How many audio and virtual instrument tracks are you running? What's the sample rate? What's the buffer size? Also, go to Devices, VST Performance, Is it the Disc Meter or the Asio meter that is peaking?

Thanks,

Its connected via usb. Its about 12 vocal tracks and 16 instrament tracks. What I do is make the beat on the trinity then via midi, dump each track into cubase. sample rate looks to be 44000khz I belive. Of the 2 verticle bars on the the left of the transeformer, The bar on the right which I think is the asio is the one thats peaking? Sorry if this is confusing.

Hello Banks,

It looks like your processor cannot process all the information quickly enough, and your external drive does not have enough usb bandwidth to pull the information off the drive very quickly either. I would suggest switching to your internal hard drive for now, but your also going to want to upgrade to a system with more processing power.

Here are some Digital Audio Workstations that we recommend.
