Sounds to me that you may not have your MIDI inputs/outputs activated. Please check the following for me, after opening Cubase.
Devices > Device Setup > MIDI Port Setup
What do you see in the window? In port system name is Tascam listed anywhere? Quick and easy check is to assure that the "In All Inputs" box next to the Tascam MIDI in (if it is listed) is checked.
Click OK.
Once this is done and confirmed, start a new project. Create a MIDI track and set the MIDI input for that channel to "All Inputs." Play the controller and tell me if you see a red activity light in the channel? If so, there is MIDI going in.
Now, assigned the MIDI out to your selected VSTi or sound of choice. You are ready to record.
If this doesn't work, please send me a private email and I can log onto your computer to take a look, if like.
Thanks for the support!
