I have been using the MI4 w/ my Macbook 10.4.11 (Processor 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / Memory 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) as a MIDI interface for Reason 4.0 w/ no problems. I recently decided to do some vocal recording on location and have not been able to set up the MI4 as the audio interface w/ the Cubase SL3 (updated to version 3.3.1 Build 944). I have used Cubase (SX3 w/ the Yamaha 02r) elsewhere frequently, however, the w/ my home set-up the MI4 does not show as an option under my Device Set-Up. It does show up as a midi interface option. It also shows up as an audio interface under my mac audio/midi setup. I have tried to update the MI4 several times to the 1.3.00 Intel update from the Steinberg website (and I have verified that my current Firmware is set to 1.0.6) but every time it says it successfully installs and the computer restarts, the MI4 software version remains at 1.1.0.15. I have made sure that the interface is not plugged into the usb port when I am installing the update. I have ran through all the scenarios in my head and cannot figure it out.
Please help me understand if A. My setup is not compatible B. I have missed some necessary steps C. My device is just malfunctioning
Thanks so much, I've spent like 6 hours trying to figure this all out!!!!!

Hello Eliezer,
Well, I think a problem may lie in the fact that SL 3 is not intel compatible. You should probably upgrade to CS4 from www.steinbergupgrades.com to be Intel Mac compatible. The software version should read 1.1.0.15 on the MI4. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. That would explain why the audio recording hasn't worked w/ my computer. Cubase SL3 however seemed to work fine for audio editing, midi recording, and using rewire w/ Reason on my Intel Mac computer. My next question would be if I upgrade to CS4, would I also need to purchase another audio interface for recording, or would the MI4 interface then be compatible w/ my computer?
Thanks in advance, Eliezer

OK, got my answer. I'm posting it in case anyone else has the same issues.
http://knowledgebase.steinberg.de/94_1.html Support for the Mac OS X Universal Binary platformWith the release of Cubase 4/Cubase Studio 4 in autumn 2006 Steinberg offered the first Universal Binary products to run on the Intel based Macintosh systems. Several other Steinberg applications followed soon. All applications that are not listed in the compatibility list at the bottom of this text do not run at all or at least not satisfactorily on Apples new Intel based Macintosh hardware. Although it is possible to run our PowerPC based applications using the Rosetta technology, one can expect a heavily reduced performance. Please note that we do not offer any support for the combination of Intel based Macintosh systems and our PowerPC compatible products!
