I apologize for what I am sure is a very dumb question from a total noob... for the last two weeks (since getting a copy of Cubase LE), I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the device settings or buffers or whatever to get the playback and record tracks to synch... here is the setup, appreciate any ideas you might have!
1. Guitar to Mixer, 2. Drum machine to mixer, 3. Mixer to sound card - line in, 4. Cubase Stereo track enabled, 5. Record stereo track with guitar and drum machine result: sounds great no problems... 6. turn off drum machine 7. record disable first stereo track 8. record enable a new guitar track 9. click monitor icon, 10. listen to playback through soundcard spdif out to amp to speakers 11. play note on guitar, Guitar playback is lagging behind by 1/2 sec 12. plug headphones into soundcard headphone jack 11. disable monitor icon in cubase 12. play note on guitar, guitar is now in synch with playback... 13. record new track 14. listen to original and new track, new track is lagging behind by 1/2 second\ 15. check Device setup options 16. fiddle with soundcard parameters, try again, no change etc... 17. read operator manual (again) can't find anywhere that explains exactly how to adjust this latency... 18. run the DPC latency checker for the pc, looks good very low latency numbers...
Thanks!

Its a diamond Xtreme PCI soundcard with spdif in/out line in/ out etc. If I isten to the playback through speakers and headphones plugged into the soundcard for the guitar being recorded it is not as bad as trying to monitor both through the speakers (which are being fed via the PCI spdif out to an amp) ... How can the latency be adjusted using the screen that has the VST parameters such as 'adjust for latency Y/N' ' Shift ' and 'Synch with recording or playback' ? Many thanks!

Does that card come with an ASIO driver? If it does go to devices then device setup. then click on VST multitrack and make sure you have that driver selected. Then you should be able to adjust the buffer size which will adjust the latency.
Thanks

Thanks Jeff, I have it figured out. If I switch the driver to the RP350 ASIO driver and do the Overdub tracks (track monitor off, listening through headphones), the input comes through the USB port and records with no latency, I can then switch the driver back to the full duplex ASIO for listening to playback.
