Technical Error with sound fuzzing and lag
      #5765 - 02/24/08 06:54 PM

Hey, I keep getting problems with my cubase 4 program only after about a minute of using it, the whole program will lag for a few minutes - not the music playing or latency, just general lag with the cursor and selecting things. Also all sound will become distorted when i play the track and i have to reopen cubase for it to stop, yet sometimes it doesn't. My soundcard is an E-MU 1616m so i dont think its down to that.
However when I go into any of the VST instruments to load one onto a track it comes up with an error message about a crash and to restart cubase.

Can anyone help? It happens all the time.
Cheers,
Ollie

When this is going on what is the VST performance meter reading?

Thanks

The meter seems to be active even when im not playing anything. The fuzzing gets worse too when i add effects such as reverb.
Thanks

If it is running high, try raising your buffer size.

How do I go about doing this? I tried going into Device setup and raised the disc preload? But that didnt stop the fuzzing. When I go to load a vst instrument (from HALionOne) The error message says there was a crash and to contact technical support with a LOG file, will that help?

Cheers

Are you on a PC? If so open the control panel software for your interface and adjust it there.

Thanks

Sorry for sounding dumb, but could you be more specific? I looked in Cubase for a control panel or buffer size and I looked on my PC's control panel, but couldnt find one.

I think it is deffinately to do with the VSTs because and standard MIDI track works fine

Thanks for your help

Open the software for the hardware. Usually for most hardware you'll see an icon in the system tray.

What hardware and software do you mean? Are you talking about the soundcard? All the software I have for the soundcard is a mixer, i cant find anything to do with buffer size. There isnt any hardware for the vst or cubase.
Thanks.
