What Audio Hardware Do You Use?
      #5330 - 01/12/08 09:45 AM

Hi, everyone...

I've just purchased Cubase 4 (ditching ProTools M-Powered), so I'm using it with the M-Audio FireWire 1814. I've gotten it down to about a 5ms latency, which is good so far.

I would love to be able to record 16 simultaneous inputs (or more) provided my computer could handle it, but I have NO other experience with interfaces to buy.

So, I'd like to come up with a list of interfaces to research, along with any recommendations from other Cubase 4 users.

Here are my preferences:

- Low Latency
- 16 or more inputs
- Rack mountable

Would you mind responding with what you use and your experience with it? It will give me a good list of interfaces to investigate, and maybe help others thinking of buying a new one.

Thanks...
Jeff

-- I'll go first:

Hardware: M-Audio FireWire 1814
Interface: Firewire
Lowest Latency: 5 ms in / 5 ms out
Rackmountable? No
#Rack Spaces: 0
Link for more info: M-Audio FireWire 1814

Get yourself an RME FIREFACE 800 and youll be just fine
Great drivers, Lstency free monitoring on the front end. Totalmix software for that is WAY flexible
You can hook up ANY I/O box via Optical connection for another 8 ins and out, it has TWO of these BTW so you could have 24 in and 24 out with the FF800 plus any two other boxes. A lot of this comes down to YOUR budget honestly

If you NEED 16 inputs you may want to look at the Lynx Aurora 16
http://www.lynxstudio.com/aurora/index.html
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Aurora16/
Youll need the card to interface witht he converter here be it AES, Firewire etc whichever you need

Great converters

MOTU 24I/O will give you 24 in and 24 out in one box

or
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HD192CorePCIe/
plus one of these

RME converters are better though

Also, please do not forget that Yamaha makes quality interfaces as well. It all depends on your budget. You can check out the MW series mixers, GO 46 or even the amazing N8/N12 digital mixers.

You can find more information at www.yamaha.com.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
