This guide will show you how best to save and manage all of your Cubase
projects.
When you create a new project in Cubase it is important that you pay
close attention to the ‘Select Directory’ dialog box. This
box allows you to create a specific project folder for each new project
you create. The instructions are as follows:
1. Open Cubase
2. Click on File>New Project
3. After selecting a new project you will receive a dialog box asking
you to select a template. You will just select whatever template best
suits the project you are about to start. (If in doubt, choose the "Empty" template and you can then add tracks as you need them in the "Project" menu.)
4. After selecting a template, you will then see a dialog box asking you
to select a directory
This
is a very important window because this allows you to
create and set the folder in which all the content for the project will
be saved. Within this folder will be the project file, all audio files,
edits, videos, etc that are attached to the specific project you are
working on.
Creating a new folder for each song will allow you to easily keep track
of your files. If you get in the habit of
clicking "OK" through this window, you will eventually run into
the problem of having all of the content for many of your songs stored in
the same folder. When recording and bouncing audio tracks many files are often created from the same source, so without giving each file a very specific name (and given the logical numbered naming conventions in Cubase), it can soon become difficult to tell which files belong to which project. This makes it difficult to back up projects, transfer
projects to other drives or partners, or remove entire projects without accidentally removing files belonging to others.
The moral of this story is to get in the habit of creating and naming folders
so your workflow is not continually being interrupted by having
to search for files. |
