How do I locate my serial number on a PC in Windows XP?

If you have recently uninstalled your software from your PC and now need to reinstall but can not locate your serial number you may look in the registry to find it by following these steps.

  1. First you want to go to your start menu and click 'Run' and type in regedit and press 'ok'
  2. Now you will be inside the registry and you should expand the folder for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  3. Once you have expanded that folder you can expand the folder for SOFTWARE
  4. Inside the SOFTWARE folder should be the Steinberg folder, open it.
  5. Locate the version of Cubase or Nuendo you are trying to find the serial number of and expand its folder. Inside you should find a folder called 'Userdata', open that folder.
  6. In the right window of the registry you should now see some registry entries and one should say 'Serialnumber' and will contain your serial number beside it.
Please keep in mind that this way of finding your serial number is only valid if you have not formatted your computer but have lost your serial number.
